@Thomas: thanks for the links!

I have to say, that I can’t help any further at this point / I’am sorry.

Can you give me a hint … If you have CardDAV and Calendar (DAV or whatever server) setup in TB and using IMAP for mails, what data more in the profile is needed by the Users?

Tested with CardBook 17.9 : editing & viewing vCard-lists works.

With CardBook 17.9 I tested collecting outgoing email addresses in category ‘unsorted’ … the new contact with field “CATEGORIES” is synced to the server.

The only thing I discovered: some CardDAV Clients (like MacOS’s Addressbook) does not show or use the “CATEGORIES” in any matter.

For me, with CardBook 17.9 everything works fine. If there is nothing new, I suggest to mark this thread with ‘solved’.

I can confirm 1/ … autocomplete works like expected.

About 2/: To get in use of the CardBook addresses in autocomplete, I have to restart TB after enabling autocomplete in CardBook. Without restart there is no change in enabling/disabling autocompletion, open a new compose window is not enough.

IMO this is not a big deal, I expect, no one would change this setup every day.

@torsten: you wrote:

Storing data in xml files for exchange with other systems or using the contacts in an other context is for me the most flexible format.

I have a doubt, the only RFC for such a schema I found in WWW is:

https://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc6351

Do you know any (import/export) tool suporting this (or any other XML CardDAV schema)?

@rrchampion what kind of server did you use?

Setup address-book in CardBook is quite simple:

1.) Open TB
2.) Open CardBook: Tools–>CardBook
3.) right mouse click in the left bar: “Add new address-book”
4.) select *Network*
5.) select “CardDAV” if you have your own CardDAV server:

* URL: https://<hostname>/<url-prefix>/<user>/<calendar-folder>
* User Name: <user> .. your user name also called *principal*
* Password:  <passwd> .. your password

If you are MacOS user, why not using MacOS Addressbook App to
sync with your CardDAV server?

For those who are german readers, I wrote down my CalDAV/CardDAV
and Client/Server experience:

The only Doc I find is http://kb.mozillazine.org/Sharing_profiles_-_mail this article is from 2008 and there is no comment about sharing accross OS … my experience is, features who are usefull for admins are often droped by mozilla without any comment in changelog … this is what I realized over a long period with FFox (very annoying) … With that article’s history ending in 2008, I guess this feature is not suported in TB (any longer).

I can confirm, that this behavior is caused by Android’s address-book app. I tried to to tag URL with private/work in a complete different setup here (Radicale is the server and “DAVdroid” as Android-Client and “MacOS Contacts” as another client). The behavior here is absolutly the same, Android’s Addressbook tags all URLs with “URL”, you can’t choose any other value like PRIVATE or WORK.

BTW: I recomend DAVdroid and OpenTask for Android Clients, you can get it for free from F-Driod or for a small fee from google’s Play-Store
