ParticipantBeen using Cardbook for a while (think I started with 12.8)
As far as I’m aware I have not changed anything regarding Thunderbird or Cardbook or the server that cardbook syncs to – all has been working superbly and without a hitch
However..
My email has been getting slower and slower to respond to mouse interactions (scrolling through the inbox is jumpy and has a two to three second or so delay to react to mouse scrolls, selecting emails has gone jumpy and iffy as if /something/ is seriously chewing resources)
By way of disabling add-ons to try and find the culprit -cardbook is the only addon that effects the behaviour
Cardbook itself works at lightning speed and sync, edit, add and deleting contacts is silky smooth and fast, scrolling through the list (I only have 130 contacts) is fluid and silky smooth
Only the email interface is affected with slow sluggish resposne
Disabling cardbook and email is back to normal speed and no delay using the mouse scroll wheel to scroll through the list
Have taken a log and nothing suspicious is shown (I guess it wouldn’t as cardbook itself works fine and runs at a faster pace than I can type or scroll 😀 )
Have installed a much earlier version to test (12.9) and the problem is there, but less severe (only get a one second delay for scroll wheel interaction)
With cardbook disabled I get no mouse wheel delay and silky smooth email
With cardbook 21.5 I have a 3 second scroll wheel delay and severely impacted email interface issues to the point emails are a chore to work with
I really wish you would write a standalone windows client app so I can have fast email without having to dissable the plug in and only enable the plug in when I need to use cardbook 😀
Regards
Rob

ParticipantDone and fixed!
You are a star, back to having usable email with the plugin enabled 🙂
Curious as to why flicking to an earlier version also semi fixes it
I have not intentionally changed this setting as far as I’m aware (so I would assume it is a default setting to have this feature set to “on”)
Many thanks for a speedy reply and confirmed fix, hope you are having a wonderful evening

ParticipantWould you consider doing a simple stand alone windows app?
Maybe I’m missing the point by not using some of the features of integrating it into Thunderbird?
Not found a suitable app for the Mrs who doesn’t use Thunderbird
The ones we have tried seem too fully featured/complex or just plain don’t work – unlike Cardbook which works fantastically well for what we need

ParticipantI can confirm that I was experiencing the same problem for the last few days. I too narrowed it down to Cardbook after selectively disabling the AddOns one by one.
I can also confirm the fix above in Thunderbird Preferences > Display works.
Running on Linux Mint 18 / Ubuntu 16 for the record. -

CardBook
Keymastertill version 21.4, I’ve introduced the display of the correspondents of the emails list from Cardbook… before only the email detail pane have the display of the correspondents from CardBook… and if you have lot of emails with lot of contacts this may cause performance issues
for a standalone app, I’m for the moment too dependent of the XUL/XPCOM but as this technology will be deprecated by Mozilla, but in middle term why not…

ParticipantHmmm. So … when I replied on 1st August, unchecking the “Show only Display Name” setting fixed the problem of slow response in my inbox.
However, it seems an update since then (4th Aug was the latest one my installation reports) has re-activated the problem. Now the inbox is sluggish even with the “Show only Display Name” option unchecked. I’ve tried it with the option checked and unchecked and there is now no difference.
Disabling Cardbook Add-on and restarting Thunderbird stops the sluggish behaviour. Any more suggestions?-

ParticipantYes, that seems to make it a bit faster. However I’d prefer to keep that turned on, as I have a few contacts in other address books that I don’t really want in my Cardbook / DAV addressbook.
I have 4 other address books with a total of around 1000 contacts. I just pruned 800 contacts out of one address book, so I brought it down from 1800 to 1000, and there was no difference in speed. Is this expected? Can I optimize the sqlite databases to make a difference?

Keymasterthe issue is for getting the display name from the Thunderbird standard address books… I have ~4000 contacts in Cardbook on a poor PC and it works…

KeymasterI can confirm there is a slowdown in (probably) the most recent version – before I didn’t notice it. I observed a slight lag on all operations (changing folders, selecting a mail etc).
The fix to use CardBook as unique source of addresses worked for me, I didn’t have it activated before. Now TB speed is back to normal.
Strange though that this came up with the (or one of the) last version/s.

InactiveConfirming this report, and the workarounds.
1) CardBook Prefs -> General Tab -> “Unique source for contacts”
^^^ this works presuming that the user doesn’t care about LOCAL contacts
2) Thunderbird Prefs -> Display Tab -> Advanced sub-tab -> “Show only display name for people in my address book”What is the plan to fix the software defect? The default configuration for MANY users will suffer this. I personally was too lazy to go through add-on isolation process for weeks until today I finally got fed up, isolated which add-on was causing the problem, and stumbled over this thread.

ParticipantHi, This extension is really great but I have the same problem.
The fact is Iam using thunderbird 91.7.0 (64 bits) under linux mint 20.2 and there is no option “show only display name for people in my address book” (Unique source for contacts is well ticked)
So Cardbook is extrmely slow and thunderbird at startup is slow too.
If you have any suggestion ? Thanks a lot

CardBook
Keymasterthe option “show only display name for people in my address book” is the same than the one used by Thunderbird (mail.showCondensedAddresses)… Update to the last CardBook version (74.0 as it fixes a bug for this)
for the slow startup, maybe try to uninstall CardBook, restart Thunderbird twice and then reinstall CardBook (you won’t lose anything)
