      Hi, I’m new to Cardbook.

In the past I have been using a PHP-Script to read data directly from the *.mab files in my profile.

I tried the same with SELECTing the data column FROM the table object_data in the cardbooks sqlite-file. Most of it is readable text, but it contains weird characters – even in names, that consist only of standard a-z characters.

Does cardbook use some special algorithm to “compress” something here or is this Thunderbirds doing?

Alternatively is there a way to automatically export/backup the contacts in text format?

      Thanks
      Virsacer

CardBook data are stored in an indexedDB database. Thunderbird manages this. CardBook stores objects so a JSON.parse() should allow you to have texts..

No way to automate an export (but that’s a good idea)

I imported an example vcard of “Erika Mustermann” which looks like this:

      Clipboard01

The second block is converted to UTF-8, but that does not help much…
So I guess I have to wait for the automated export/backup feature 😀

why do you want to directly export the CardBook data ? exporting into vcf or csv is not enough ?

Well, the database is always up to date 🙂

Currently I am using the vcf, but I’ll probably forget to export it again when something changes in the data…
