ParticipantI have a question about using categories. I create categories and add contacts to them and sometimes the contacts disappear from within the category and sometimes the whole category disappears.
For example, I created a category called test and added two contacts to it. The category was built and looked fine with the two contacts in it. I did a synchronize and then one of the two contacts disappeared from the category (when I select the category in the list, only one now shows). When I go to the list of contacts and right click on the contact that is now missing from the category, and select Category, it still shows the test category, but it is no longer checked. I did another synchronize and the entire category disappeared.
I am on TB 68.12.1 and CB 45.9. I am syncing to my Google contacts. I really don’t care if the category is synced to Google or not (if I read correctly that will not work), but I would like the categories and their contacts to stay complete.
Any idea what is happening?

yes this is a well known bug of the google CardDAV API… The workaround is to use one free cloud on the web to store at least its contacts… for example for my personal use, I have my contacts here : https://ncloud.zaclys.com…

ParticipantOK… thanks for the explanation. I don’t have the same problem in TBSync using the category function there. I was just surprised when my categories started to disappear in Cardbook.

ParticipantNo, sorry if I wasn’t clear. The categories themselves are not synced to Google.
What I meant is that unlike Cardbook, if I create categories in TBSync they do not get modified when I do the sync with Google. No contacts are removed from the categories and no categories are removed.
With Cardbook, contacts are removed form the categories I create in Cardbook and sometimes the entire category is removed.

ParticipantIt seems this is still how CardBook behaves. Categories just disappear, or contacts are removed from categories.
I naively thought that Categories would sync with Google Contacts labels. If that is just not possible, then it would be lovely if syncing just let the Cardbook categories alone…
I have just managed to find settings that seem OK for autocomplete, and synchronizing, but this business with the categories makes the Gmail labels and the Cardbook categories pretty much useless…
I am struggling to find a workable and reliable configuration using Thunderbird and GMail. I really prefer to limit the number of plugins and add-ons that I try out, or have to rely on.!

ParticipantNot sure what problem you are having, but all seems to work fine here with categories and Google labels.
